Hang On and Pray Hard
As an exhorter and one who loves to encourage and ‘egg on’… I find great alignment with the title of Pastor Jim Cymbala’s book “Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire.” I reject the stodgy and dull. I pursue the excitement of the New Testament church.
Let me share some important components of current events in our nation.
We are stepping across a threshold into a period of cataclysmic change… a time of unprecedented upheaval will overtake all of us. Certainly, the climate in our nation right now is filled with hatred, fear and lies. The spiritual atmosphere seems filled with conflicting reports and assessments.
Will the one who sits in the White House make any difference? A resounding “Yes!” World leaders have always been important to God. In Daniel’s great prayer of praise in Daniel 2:21 he says that “(God) controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings.” NLT
God positions kings and presidents (and yes, even dictators at times) to fulfill his purposes in the course of history. Listen to God’s handling of wicked King Sennacherib of Assyria: “And because of your raging against me and your arrogance, which I have heard for myself, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth. I will make you return by the same road on which you came.”
Never ever think that God isn’t at all concerned as to which leaders will work into his purposes. And that should remind us again that God knows more than we do about those who will lead a nation and how their personalities, characters and hearts are either tied into his or oppose his plans.
God is worthy of our trust during these times. He has us ‘on scene’ at this moment in history. He and his purposes will take place. With the Kingdom of God clashing with the kingdom of this world with its dishonesty, power-grabbing and immorality, all of us will be drawn into the battle.
And the good news about this battle is that being on his side means we all win with Him.
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:9,10 NIV
