It’s safe to stand on God’s promises!

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,

It’s one of the old songs … the kind that brought a smile to the face and comfort to the insides!

It’s a hymn that reminds us of an outstanding privilege given us … that of standing on his powerful promises … not just sitting on his premises.

I’m afraid a lot of really good and necessary ingredients of the Christian life slip right on by us while we’re faithfully sitting around being religious. Now I suppose there is some value to being religious as opposed to being non-religious, but I’m convinced that just being religious was never what God had in mind for us!

We need to move into God’s promises and not just know them, quote them and talk about them. It’s in that movement of taking God seriously about what He has offered us that our religion moves firmly into a life-changing relationship. And I’ll take relationship over religion on any day of any week!

“And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great

and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you

to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption

caused by human desires.” 2 Peter 1:4 New Living Translation

God desires to pass on more than a philosophy of living, but a life that emanates from his very nature. And our response to his promises become the pathway to this happening.

And so the ability to live in peace in a noisy and chaotic world is promised to those who listen to God. (Proverbs 1:33) The exchange of our weakness for his power, new strength and the ability to soar on wings of eagles, run and not get weary, walk and not faint is promised to those who trust Him. (Isaiah 40:29,30)

We’re offered the promise of dynamic courage in the face of anything we might face because of God’s constant presence. (Deuteronomy 31:6) And through any and all circumstances we have the promise that our lives and the components of our lives will work out for his glory, our benefit and according to his divine plan. (Romans 8:28)

This week find a promise of God that speaks to you personally. Don’t look around to see who it may be for. It’s yours. Now, don’t just stare at it … stand on it!
